Track and Field

Track is both an individual and team sport and involves male and female students from both high school and middle school.

Length of Activity

Track season runs from mid February to mid April.

Selection Process

All high school students are eligible to participate.

Expectations of Participants

Athletes are asked to sign an information sheet at the beginning of the season listing any conflicts they may have with practice. Conflicts may include other extracurricular activities, such as drama, Boy Scouts, or another sport. Practices are mandatory; however excused misses will be given for these communicated conflicts. Athletes who miss a practice are expected to train on their own.

Challenges/Sacrifices/Time Commitments

Track and Field practice is scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Athletes are encourage to train on their own on Tuesdays.

A typical season includes four to six meets. Most meets are on Saturdays and usually run from 8am to 3 pm. Top team athletes and upperclassmen can compete in the Petty Invitational in Okinawa, Japan the first weekend of April.

Major Event

  • Regular meets.
  • During the 2008 season, twilight meets began. These meets are on Friday evenings and go 3pm to 8pm.
  • Petty Invitational in Okinawa, Japan

Financial Estimates

  • Athletes are expected to have running shoes and purchase a uniform. Typically, a uniform costs 500 pesos. Athletes who run are encouraged to buy a pair of spikes.
  • Athletes who are eligible to compete at the Petty are expected to raise or provide the funds for the trip. The trip normally costs around $600 depending on airline ticket costs and use of airline miles.
