Essential Duties of the job

Prepare lessons according to curriculum guidelines
Give instruction and supervise students
Provide assessment of students according to the guidelines given
Attend after school meetings and be available for extra-curricular activities as needed

Courses Offered In This Department

MIDDLE SCHOOL WOODS

PRE-ENGINEERING I & II Year 1 Credit / Semester ½ Credit

This course is designed to teach electronics, practical arts through computer aided design using 3D printers and/or laser cutters, material cutting tools, computer programming, computational thinking and reasoning skills. The course is teacher directed at the beginning, moving toward student/team problem solving challenges and ending with a capstone group project.

Pre-Engineering I may be taken independently as a semester-long course for ½ credit.

INDUSTRIAL DESIGN I Semester ½ Credit

This course will focus on practical design principles and fabrication techniques such as woodwork with hand tools and heavy machines, foam craft, as well as resin, model painting, and epoxy work. This class will refine students’ crafting skills, but also serve as a creative outlet in which they can not only express themselves through their work, but learn proper design principles such as basic ergonomics and a design workflow in order to make their ideas into feasible projects.

INDUSTRIAL DESIGN II Semester ½ Credit

Prerequisite: Industrial Design I is recommended, but not required

This course will focus on design principles and fabrication techniques with the aid of CAD software. Practical fabrication skills will be combined with CAD fabrication tools such as CNC machining, laser cutting, and 3D printing. This will enable the students to further materialize their ideas by creating projects which have basic lighting and sound as well as arduino enabled systems. The focus will not be on coding or engineering but how these tools can enable students practical and artistic work.
