Theater & Drama Teacher

Seeking a high school theater and drama teacher. The drama teacher will provide quality, Christ-centered education for children, most of whom are children of missionaries. They will create an environment conducive to learning and teach children basic academic, social, and developmental skills. 

Essential Duties of the job

  • Prepare lessons according to curriculum guidelines
  • Give instruction and supervise students
  • Provide assessment of students according to the guidelines given
  • Attend after school meetings and be available for extra-curricular activities as needed

Additional responsibilities

  • Participate in all professional development as required by the school 
  • Set and work toward professional growth goals according to the Teacher Growth Program Handbook
  • as requested by supervisor

  • Bachelor’s degree & Certification in education
  • Minimum of one year teaching experience preferred

Courses Offered In This Department

THEATER WORKSHOP Semester ½ Credit

May be repeated for credit

Theater Workshop will give students a chance to explore all the production areas of staging a show. First quarter units will include the basics of set, tech, costumes, publicity, and more. Second quarter will include a short length black box style one act show to implement the basics of those skills, fully produced by the students. Students who complete this course will be eligible to apply for Advanced Drama as production team members. Course may be repeated.

 

ADVANCED DRAMA Semester ½ Credit

May be repeated for credit

Prerequisite: Principles of Acting; by audition only

This course is designed for those who have already mastered basic skills of drama performance. Greater focus will be given to character development and the roles of the actor. The semester will culminate with an outside public performance. Students will have both acting and production responsibilities for this performance. Most of the rehearsals for the show will be in class, but students are expected to be at after-school rehearsals for the week prior to performance.

 

STAGECRAFT Semester ½ Credit

May be repeated for credit

Prerequisite: Theater Workshop

Stage craft introduces the student to the physical structures and systems of the working stage, including rigging and lighting. Students will work on sets and props, as well as forming the stage crew for a major stage production. This involvement may require extensive out-of-class time commitment during the 8 weeks of set construction, final rehearsals, and performance.
